How can e-Infrastructures support digital cultural heritage? What can Member States do so that cultural institutions may benefit from the research infrastructures? What are the priorities to be addressed? The final DC-NET international conference will answer to these questions. The talks will focus on the results of the project in terms of reflections and concrete actions. The conference is targeted to digital cultural heritage experts, e-infrastructures providers and policy makers.

Venue:
Auditorium - Ente Cassa di Risparmio di Firenze
Via Folco Portinari 5/red
Florence, Italy

The LIBER Steering Committee for Heritage Collections and Preservation, in collaboration with the Fondazione Rinascimento Digitale in Florence and the National Library of the Netherlands, invites you to attend the second international workshop on digital preservation.

‘Do not go at this game alone’, was the unmistakable advice given to LIBER libraries at the end of the first LIBER workshop on digital preservation in The Hague in 2010. Since then, the euro crisis and budget cuts have only exacerbated the need to seek partnerships in securing long-term access to your digital collections. But with whom can you partner? How does it work? What are the advantages and disadvantages of various forms of partnering? And how much of the responsibility will always be yours, no matter how much of the actual work you outsource to others?

This workshop will provide an overview of the best-known collaborative initiatives: the stakeholders involved, the basic set-ups, the legal foundations, the business models – and help you analyse which alternatives are best suited for your organisation, your type of collection and your national culture. We will deal with organisational issues, legal issues, financial issues and technical issues that will influence your choices. Critical questions will be asked by experts in the field, and there will be plenty of time to ask your own questions.

Lastly, the workshop will showcase a number of best practices.

You will go home with a keen understanding of the types of collaborative practices available which will enable you to start discussing long-term preservation policies with your management team.

Details of the program and registration information will follow shortly.
http://www.rinascimento-digitale.it
text/html2011-11-08T10:51:22+01:00http://www.dc-net.eu/Budapest: E-infrastructure basics for cultural institutions and the best use cases

As part of the e-InfraNet project's information exchange function workshops are organised to identify and capture good practice and to provide recommendations for further analysis and acitivities.

e-InfraNet is holding a workshop adressing the topic of Open on the 27th and 28th of October. The broad objective of this workshop is to stimulate a lively and engaging debate around the benefits and challenges that the concept of Open Research and higher educaiton in it's broadest sense (encompassing Open Access, data, source, borders) poses for the communities involved. The workshop will address questions such as

Why is it of benefit to the research and higher education communities to adopt a more 'Open approach' in research and education ?

What are the implications (e.g political, organizational, legal) of a more open approach for a (sustainable) e-Infrastructure ?

How can academics from different disciplinary backgrounds learn from each other in developing a coherent vision for (the progress of) the Open agenda ?

The programme which is currently being finalised, will have contributions from researchers and practitioners working on varous aspects of the subject.

For further information:

e-InfraNet website
text/html2011-10-25T21:26:07+01:00http://www.dc-net.eu/Amman: Integrating Arab e-Infrastructure in a Global Environment

http://www.dc-net.eu/index.php?en/22/events-archive/74/warsaw-european-cultural-commons-one-day-strategy-event
As part of the Polish EU Presidency, Europeana and the National Library of Poland are running a high- level conference to debate the strategic framework for a European Cultural Commons - a significant action line in the Digital Agenda for Europe 2020.
The event will bring experts in the sector, including digital entrepreneurs and content aggregators, together with national and European policy strategists and political advisors.

The aim is to agree a common vision for a European Cultural Commons that will effectively deliver the diversity of digitised cultural content in ways that satisfy the full range of user needs and expectations. Key outcomes will be the identification of the delivery barriers and an agreed strategy to overcome them.

During the morning sessions keynote speakers will share their insights on the essence and governance of the Commons, legal issues and user perspectives. Different types of aggregators will elaborate on how they see their position in a European Cultural Commons, their target users and their relationships with other providers in the cultural space. A moderated panel discussion will examine portals' successful content-delivery strategies.

Workshops in the afternoon will explore the various barriers to the Cultural Commons in terms of data access, competences and funding. The result of the workshops will be draft recommendations for the development of an operational European Cultural Commons, as the basis for discussion with national governments, the European Parliament and the Commission.
The event is free and travel costs will be reimbursed according to Europeana v2.0 travel rules. http://www.dc-net.eu/index.php?en/22/events-archive/72/taipei-teldap-international-conference-2012-call-for-papers

Following the successful conference series of 2009 TELDAP, 2010 TELDAP and 2011 TELDAP, the next TELDAP International Conference will be scheduled on February 21-24, 2012 at Academia Sinica, Taipei, Taiwan. The 2012 TELDAP International Conference, hosted by the International Collaboration and Promotion Division of Taiwan e-Learning & Digital Archives Program (TELDAP), provides an international forum for researchers in the Digital Archives and e-Learning communities to exchange their new ideas, latest research results and discussions for future development. It is essential to organize a high-quality, well-attended and up-to-date conference on various areas of digital archive and e-Learning.

Next year's conference theme is Convergence, Collaboration & Creativity (3C). The invention of book printing in the 15th Century and the organization of knowledge in research libraries allowed unprecedented access to knowledge. To collect, curate, preserve and make available ever-increasing amounts of archival data, the state-of-the-art Information and Communication Technology will be needed. Future accomplishment will be accelerated through persistent access to data and digital materials and their uses and re-use. Over the past few years, digitization and Internet together have revolutionized many disciplines of research, in particular humanity and social sciences. The innovative research projects encourage more collaboration and make their results easier to reuse and re-purpose.

Topics covered in the 2012 conference include: the citizen cyberscience and archives, innovative applications- content, data, and tools, scientific data and biodiversity collections, digital preservation, geographic information system (GIS) and sustainability. Via the series of TELDAP conferences, together we could bring global leaders and creative researchers with the goal to explore new approaches to build future research libraries, archives and sustainable data infrastructure.

All info: http://collab.teldap.tw/teldap2012/index.html
text/html2011-08-19T08:49:57+01:00http://www.dc-net.eu/Brussels: GRDI2020 Workshop "Global Research Data Infrastructures: The Big data Challenges
